Paul Hecht was cantor in Rastenburg, later in Berlin. He survived the Theresienstadt camp, worked in Berlin after the war (photo) and emigrated to America.
Rastenburg is a municipality of East Prussia, which belongs today to Poland and is called Kętrzyn The Heimatverein Blusztyn takes care of the history of the village and publishes a very detailed series of publications.
In September 2017 the 8th edition was dedicated to the topic “Jews in Rastenburg”. The editor Cezary Korenc gave us a copy in April 2019 so that we could report on it, thank you a lot!
The brochure is in Polish. It contains all previous publications on the subject. Very useful is the reprint of a list of all Jewish inhabitants before the war, as it was published in Dec. 1997 by Wolfgang Zeihe in the Heimatbrief “Rund um die Rastenburg”. Also a street directory with pictures of shops of Jewish owners, advertisements and memorabilia.
